There are over 9,000 children in Tennessee's foster care system right now. That number is hard to sit with — but it's the number that drives everything we do.
Family Ministries Foster Care is a faith-based foster care agency located in the heart of East Tennessee. We are a ministry of Free Will Baptist Family Ministries, an organization that has been "getting attached" to hurting children and families since 1939. For over 85 years, this has been our calling — and it's one we don't take lightly.
What We Do
We recruit, train, and support foster families across the state of Tennessee. Working alongside the Department of Children's Services, we help place children in high-quality foster homes — homes that seek to meet a child's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
But we don't just hand families a license and wish them luck. We walk alongside them. We train them before they ever welcome a child through their door, support them when things get hard, and surround them with a community of people who understand exactly what they're going through.
Why We Do It
We believe the greatest foster families in Tennessee are already out there. They're sitting in church pews. They're living in our communities. They have love to give, space in their homes, and a servant's heart — they just haven't said yes yet.
We also believe that foster care is one of the most tangible ways a person can be the hands and feet of Jesus. There is a child in your community who needs a safe place to land. There is a family ready to provide it. Our job is to bring those two things together — and to make sure no one has to do it alone.
A stat that puts it in perspective: In Tennessee, a child enters foster care every two minutes. There are over 11,000 churches in this same state. We believe the Church has the capacity to meet this need — and we'd love to help make that happen.
